nos horizons organiques organisés (“our organic organised horizons”)
english »»

The Horizon changes very subtly, but it changes. A telecommunications tower is added here, poorly integrated buildings are left there, trees are cut down here, buildings are erected too high there. When you think about it, our landscape, which we often think of as bucolic, is less and less so. For this book, I mapped out my horizons in the Eastern Townships, where I live.
The wind blows through the trees and makes the forest undulate. When this air movement hits a building, nothing moves. I've drawn soft lines here and straight lines there.
The book presents five very long panoramas (over 60"). I present different landscapes, sometimes organic and sometimes organised, without any text.
I used different types of used paper and contrasted my photos to accentuate the horizon. Using small pieces of paper salvaged from construction sites, I created printing plates that I printed by hand at the bottom of the images. I then worked on each landscape using gouache, pastels, acrylics and so on.
The integration of natural elements found in the field was important for this book. I used these various materials - branches, metal, treated wood - to create ‘handles’ for turning the pages. These external additions are closely linked to the narrative of the book.
This book was created for the Biennale des artistes des Cantons-de-l'Est, the theme of which was landscaped ecology, i.e. human intervention in our environment.
