traduction du titre: Ma vie comme à la télé
J'ai fait ce livre-objet pour l’exposition «The Contained Narrative: Defining the Contemporary Artist’s Book» au Minnesota Center for Book Arts. Le thème était le contenant/contenu. Dans mes archives, j'avais ces boîtes de matériaux pour maquette d'architecte. Je les avais conservées parce qu’elles étaient bien jolies avec leur design 1960.
Le nom «Life-Like» de cette gamme de produits était déjà inspirant, le slogan aussi: «The Finest in Scenery». La forme des fenêtres des boîtes me faisait penser à un écran de télé, d'où le nom «my life-like-tv». La forme du livre est inspirée d’un «tunnel book»; il faut regarder à travers.
Le thème du livre est le paysage au sens très large. Si vous regardez à l'intérieur, vous avez d'un côté la citation «Scenery is fine, but human nature is finer.» de John Keats et de l'autre, une citation de l'artiste Marina Abramovic «We are actually living in a million parallel realities every single minute.»
De part en part, on peut voir les volets d'acétates avec des citations et des images colorées à la main. Le livre tient sur une base faite d'une ancienne boîte d'instruments de dessin technique, un morceau de couverture de livre agrémenté d’une pièce de papier sablé. J’ai ajouté une antenne pour une touche d’humour.

I made this artist book for the exhibition "The Contained Narrative: Defining the Contemporary Artist's Book" at the Minnesota Center for Book Arts. The theme was the container/content. In my archives, I had kept these boxes for their pure sixties design.
The form is a little "tunnel book", which means that we have to look through it. The window boxes reminded me of a TV screen, hence the name “My Life-like-tv”. The slogans “the Finest in Scenery” of the original product were inspiring in themselves.
The theme of the book is the very large landscape of human species. If you look inside the book, you can read on one side the quote "Scenery is fine, objective human kind is finer." John Keats. On the other side, there is a quote from the artist Marina Abramovic : "We are actually living in a million parallel realities every single minute."
Through the windows of the book, we can see some additional layers of transparencies with hand coloring. I added a base made of an old box and a little sand paper to add texture. And also a dish!
